On Friday, August 21, 2009, we continued our series when Phil Heath traveled east to pay a visit to an unsuspecting FLEX reader in Framingham, Massachusetts.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 21: 1:30 PM SNEAK ATTACK
When we pull up to Evolve Fitness on California Avenue in Framingham, — roughly 20 miles outside of Boston — our accomplice, Jani Ricci, is waiting outside. But she isn’t our only co-conspirator. We needed a little help from Evolve’s manager, Kevin Perry, to set this up. We’re told our target, Markus Ricci — a 25-year-old personal trainer on the Evolve staff and an aspiring bodybuilder — is waiting inside under the impression his mom will take part in her first-ever personal training session, under her son’s guidance, of course.

Heath takes about 10 steps through Evolve’s doors before we see Markus, sitting at a desk filing through papers. When he looks up, it only takes a second for his eyes to get wide. And wider . . . and wider.

“Are you kidding me?” Ricci says.“Get outta here!”

“Yeah you’re put on blast right now man,” Heath says. “We came all the way out here to see you!”


“I don’t know what to do right now, this is outrageous!” Markus says. “This is outta this world.”
